Who we are

One department. One standard.

Five full-time, Illinois-certified firefighter/paramedics hold the line around the clock — backed by fourteen paid-on-call members who leave their jobs, their tables, and their beds the moment the tones drop.

Together they answer for the Village of Prairie Creek and the Prairie Creek Rural Fire Protection District: fire, rescue, and advanced life support across one of the larger response areas in the county.

What we do

When seconds decide everything.

Fire suppression, technical rescue, and advanced life support — one crew, cross-trained, on call for every kind of emergency Prairie Creek can face.

Fire & Rescue

Structure and wildland fire, vehicle extrication, technical rescue, and hazmat response — backed by an aerial ladder, heavy rescue, and mutual aid through MABAS Division 47.

EMS & Ambulance

Every career firefighter is a licensed paramedic. We run ALS and BLS with two ambulances, plus free public CPR training.

The fleet

Built to answer any call.

A full-spectrum fleet kept ready on the apparatus floor — from an aerial ladder to a brush unit for the open country beyond the hydrants.

The Ladder

1,500 GPM pump · 75-foot aerial — reach, rescue, and suppression in one apparatus.

Engines 1–2

Front-line pumpers running 1,250 GPM for structure and wildland fire.

Heavy Rescue

Extrication and technical rescue with a full set of hydraulic tools.

Tanker

2,500 gallons of water supply for the rural district’s no-hydrant zones.

Ambulances ×2

One ALS, one BLS — transporting to the hospitals serving the county.

Brush Unit

A 4×4 skid unit built for off-road and field fires beyond the hydrants.

Community & safety

The best call is the one you prevent.

Permits, programs, and plain-language safety for every household and business in the district. Most of it is free — all of it starts here.
