Seven Decades of Service
The Prairie Creek Fire Protection District was organized in 1948 by a handful of farmers and townspeople who pooled their resources to buy a single pumper and stand ready for their neighbors. What began as a volunteer bucket brigade has grown into a modern combination department protecting the Village of Prairie Creek and roughly 96 square miles of surrounding farmland, homesteads, and county highway.
Through droughts, blizzards, barn fires, and highway rescues, one thing has never changed: when the tones drop, our members answer. Today we run engines, tankers, rescue apparatus, and an ALS ambulance staffed around the clock by career and paid-on-call personnel.
How the District Operates
As a public taxing body, we are accountable to the residents we protect. Our governance and service-area information is open and available.
The district is governed by an elected Board of Trustees whose meetings are open to the public. Agendas, minutes, and budgets are available on request.
We cover the Village of Prairie Creek and approximately 96 square miles of the surrounding rural district, with mutual-aid agreements linking neighboring departments.
Levy information, response statistics, and annual reports reflect our commitment to spending public funds responsibly and serving every corner of the district.
